Bittersweet End



Hey Y'all!

Well this is it. I have officially finished my masters. We took our last exam yesterday which was a bittersweet moment. They did not lie when they said this program goes by so fast. Being honest, I enjoyed every second of it and am so thankful for the opportunity and glad that I took the leap to do it. I have met some pretty awesome people that I am lucky to call my friends. I will always wish the best for all my classmates and know they will be achieving their dreams in the near future. I am so thankful for how supportive every faculty member has been through this program. I have never met such a group of people so willing to help and ensure everyone is being set up for success.

Throughout the program I have learned and grown so much within the past 9 months. I have grown intellectually, professionally, and personally. In addition to school, living in New Orleans was a blessing in itself. Being in such a unique city and immersing in its culture along with its community has been unlike anything I was expecting. I have made a home here.

As this is coming to an end, I am ready to take the next step to my future career. Medical school admissions open in a couple days and hopefully MCAT registration will too. Over the next few months, I will be focusing my attention on applying and hopefully will be hearing good news. Until then, I look forward to whatever this coming year may hold.

March Madness

Well, I have to say this has been a crazy month. I think everyone can agree with that. Lots of changes have occurred and lots of adjustments have been made over these past few weeks. All of our classes have been changed to online, our national board medical exam (NBME) was cancelled, and MCATs are postponed. Although being in the midst of a pandemic has been a struggle, I am grateful for being healthy during this time. I decided to leave New Orleans and am currently living with my older sister in Nashville, Tennessee. I am hoping to return soon once everything settles down (fingers crossed). Although I do miss going to class every day and being surrounded by my friends, the transition to online classes has not been too bad. Lettuce Celebrate!

It is now officially the end of October (Happy Halloween!) I am honestly shocked of how fast time is going, but everything has been good so far! Lately I have been volunteering at the Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine with some pharm friends and medical students from Tulane. The Goldring Center is a group of chefs that have come together to help teach the community different cooking techniques as well as nutrition and tips on healthier eating. As a volunteer, I get to help prep for the class, assist the families during the cooking session, and cleanup after the class is complete. Not only is it inspiring to see the parents willing to learn different ways to improve eating habits for the family, but it’s also amazing to see the kids so engaged and excited for it as well. I look forward to continuing volunteering at the Goldring Center and take in tips that I could later share with my friends, family, and hopefully future patients, small lifestyle changes that could improve their
